how to ride this event...
Fall Century: 102 Mile Ride
Chosen as a "Top-Ten Century" bike ride by Bicycling Magazine (June 2012) for its "Jaw-Dropping Vistas," and considered on-par with Levi's Gran Fondo in Santa Rosa, CA, by Road Bike Action Assistant Editor, Neil Shirley, the Mammoth Fall Century bike ride will provide each Fall Century participant with lifetime memories.
The 2015 version of the Mammoth Fall Century bike ride is the 22nd year of this amazing event and now includes a "pro-style" mass start and police and CHP traffic control to get riders out-of-town and onto the main course route safely.
There is also a Gran Fondo option with categorized, timed results for age, gender and overall - a great way to see how you did in relation to your friends and the general field! The Gran Fondo option is an extra $15.
The energy levels will be high and the vibe will be all about one of your best days ever on a bike. With a start and finish elevation of 8,074 feet and 6,463 total feet of climbing, this ride is as challenging as it is beautiful. Although there is a lot of climbing on this very scenic route, the climbs are nicely spaced-out with long and fast descents that will have you grinning from ear to ear...and there will be plenty of time to recover before the next climb!
Besides the challenging and memory making ride that this, we are going to have some serious fun too. The Mammoth High Sierra Fall Century and Gran Fondo bike rides will be every bit the “rolling party” that any good Century or Gran Fondo ride is! First of all, we are expecting as many as 1500 participants between all ride route options so there will be some great bike energy going on in and around Mammoth Lakes!
Second, Century and Gran Fondo riders will have full SAG and tech support as well as 6 fully-stocked aid stations with plenty of fluids, snacks and a specially-themed treat at each stop! A light lunch will also be provided mid-way through the ride at the Black Lake rest stop prior to the beginning of the Wildrose Summit climb. Finally, all ride route participants will meet back at the Start/Finish Line at The Village in Mammoth Lakes for a sumptuous after-ride buffet meal with live entertainment and the Mammoth Fall Century & Gran Fondo Expo.
So.....Put your miles in, practice your climbing, try to get here a day or two ahead of time, check-out some of our local training rides and acclimate to the altitude. Then get ready to have the ride of your life! Oh, and don't forget riding gear for any kind of weather from cool mornings in the low 40's to afternoons in the 80's with the possibility of thunderstorms. You'll be in the BIG mountains. Be prepared.....to have fun!
Note: A late fee of $20 applies to all registrations after 9/4/15.
